Our story
Built for the person who does the grocery run.
Vynn is a free Canadian grocery planning app. We combine a shared household list, price context across participating retailers, and a simple nutrition overview — so the person managing the weekly shop has better information and less friction.
Why we built it
Grocery planning in Canada is more complicated than it should be. Prices vary significantly across stores, package sizes make direct comparison confusing, and the person managing the household's grocery routine — coordinating the list, comparing flyers, deciding which store to go to — is doing a real job that rarely gets acknowledged.
We built Vynn because no existing app handled all of that in one place. There are flyer apps, shared list apps, nutrition apps, and delivery apps — but nothing that treats the full planning loop as a single problem worth solving. Not just "here's what's on sale" or "here's your list," but: here's what your list will cost at nearby participating retailers, here's what's in stock, here's a quick read on the nutritional balance of what you're buying, and here's a list that everyone in your household can see in real time.
We started building Vynn in Windsor, Ontario, with the goal of launching across Canada in Spring 2026. Over 2,400 households have joined the waitlist. We're still a small team, but the problem we're working on is real and we're building it carefully.
What we believe
Price transparency should be easy
Unit pricing — the cost per 100g or 100mL — is required to be displayed in Canadian grocery stores, but it's often printed small, inconsistently formatted, and hard to compare across stores. We normalize unit prices across participating retailers so you can see what things actually cost, not just what's on the sticker.
We qualify our pricing data honestly: we show you when prices were last updated, we don't claim real-time accuracy on everything, and we use language like "participating retailers" because that's the truth of where our data currently comes from.
Nutrition is information, not judgment
Vynn includes a cart-level nutrition score powered by data from the Canadian Nutrient File (Health Canada) and Open Food Facts. The score is designed to give households a simple, at-a-glance sense of the nutritional balance of their weekly cart — without requiring them to read 40 ingredient labels or count macros.
We're explicit about what the score isn't: it's not medical advice, it's not a diet plan, and it's not a grade. It's visibility. For anything related to your specific health needs, a registered dietitian is the right resource.
We also believe that framing matters. We describe the items that affect your score as "contributors," not "culprits." We frame nutrition as information about what's in your cart, not a verdict on your choices.
Your data is yours
We don't sell your personal information. We don't sell your grocery list. We don't sell your email address to advertisers. The full details of how we handle data are in our Privacy Policy.
Vynn is free to use. We're exploring business models that don't require monetizing user data — including a retailer partnership model that helps stores reach shoppers who are already planning a trip, without compromising what we offer to users.
Honest about what we're not (yet)
Vynn is launching Spring 2026. We're not in every city in Canada yet. We don't have every store yet. Our price data has a freshness window and we're upfront about that. We'd rather tell you what we actually cover than imply something broader and let you down.
The features we've described on this site — shared lists, cart nutrition scoring, store availability checking, recipe import, smart restocks, barcode scanning, voice assistant integration — are what we're building toward launch. Some will be in the initial release; others will follow in updates shortly after.
