For shoppers

Where does Vynn get its grocery prices?

Vynn shows you prices from participating retailers — Canadian grocery stores that share their product and pricing data with us directly, or through data partnerships. Here's how it works and what it means for you.

What "participating retailers" means

When you search for a product on Vynn, we show prices and availability from stores that have opted into our platform. We call these "participating retailers." That means:

  • We only show data we actually have. If a store isn't a participating retailer, it won't appear in your results — we don't guess or fill in gaps.
  • Coverage is growing. We're actively onboarding stores across Canada. The number of participating retailers you see in your area will increase over time.
  • Not every product at every store is guaranteed. Retailers share their catalog with us, but product availability can change. We show you when prices were last updated so you know how fresh the data is.

How we collect pricing data

Vynn gathers grocery pricing data through a combination of direct retailer partnerships and authorized data feeds. We run regular sweeps to keep prices current, and we display a freshness timestamp on all pricing information so you can see when it was last updated.

We're transparent about what our data is and isn't:

  • Prices are shelf prices — what you'd pay at checkout without loyalty discounts or member pricing applied.
  • Sale prices are reflected where available, but we always show when the price was last verified so you can judge the freshness yourself.
  • Unit prices — cost per 100g or 100mL — are normalized by Vynn across all participating retailers so you can compare products with different package sizes on equal terms.
  • We don't claim real-time inventory accuracy. Whether a specific item is in stock at a given moment depends on the retailer's systems. We show stock status where it's available and mark it as "check in-store" when we can't confirm.

Which regions does Vynn cover?

Vynn is built for Canadian shoppers and is launching with initial coverage in Ontario. We're actively expanding to additional provinces and cities leading up to and following our Spring 2026 launch.

During the early access period, your search results will reflect the participating retailers available in your area. If you're in a region with limited coverage right now, that will improve as we bring more stores onto the platform.

We're starting in Canada and building specifically for the Canadian grocery market — pricing, units, retailer names, and regional availability are all handled for Canadian stores.

Frequently asked questions about pricing data

Why does a product show a different price than what I saw in the store?

Prices can change between when we last updated our data and when you visit the store. We display a freshness timestamp on all prices — if the price shown is more than a few days old, it's worth confirming at the shelf. Sale prices in particular can start and end between our data sweeps. If you notice a consistent discrepancy, you can flag it using the report button on the product listing.

Why isn't my favourite store showing up in search results?

Your store may not yet be a participating retailer. We're adding new stores continuously, with a focus on the regions where our users are located. If you'd like to see a specific store on Vynn, you can suggest it to us at [email protected] — store requests help us prioritize our outreach. Stores interested in joining can get in touch through the partner section below.

Does Vynn include loyalty or member pricing?

Currently, Vynn shows standard shelf prices — the price you'd pay at checkout without applying a loyalty card or member discount. Loyalty and member pricing varies by account and is difficult to generalize accurately. We're exploring how to surface this information in a way that's clear and honest, and it's on our roadmap.

How do unit prices work in Vynn?

Unit prices show you the cost per 100 grams or per 100 mL for each product — a standardized measure that lets you compare products with different package sizes fairly. For example, if a 500g jar costs $4.99 and a 750g jar costs $6.49, the unit prices ($0.998/100g vs. $0.865/100g) make it immediately clear which one is the better value. Vynn normalizes these unit prices across all participating retailers so the comparison is always apples-to-apples.
