Halloween candy prices in Canada: What will your trick-or-treat budget buy?

A bag of Halloween candy can look reasonably priced until you work out how many bags you need.

If you’re expecting 100 trick-or-treaters and handing out two treats each, you need 200 pieces. Suddenly, the difference between a 50-piece bag and a 105-piece bag matters more than which one has the smaller price tag.

We checked three Mars Halloween assortments in Vynn’s price data to show how that decision can change the bill.

What we found in one Canadian store

Vynn recorded these prices at one retailer location in Saskatchewan on October 6, 2026:

Observed prices in Saskatchewan, October 6, 2026
Halloween assortmentPieces per bagObserved bag priceCost per piece
Mars assorted fun-size chocolate candies50$14.9930.0¢
Mars assorted fun-size chocolate candies95$21.9923.1¢
Mars chocolate and candy fun-size pack105$21.9920.9¢

The 50-piece bag had the lowest purchase price. The 105-piece bag had the lowest cost per wrapped treat.

The two larger bags also had the same price, despite one containing ten more pieces.

These are different assortments, so the contents matter too. Your household might prefer one mix, and individual treats can differ in size. The comparison answers a specific question: how much does each wrapped piece cost?

It doesn’t tell us which assortment everyone will enjoy most.

These are dated observations from one location, not Canadian average prices. Check the current retailer price before buying. Piece counts were corroborated against retailer product listings, including the 50-piece assortment.

How much candy do you actually need?

Start with the number of visitors you expect, then decide how many pieces you’ll give each person.

Pieces needed for your expected visitors
Expected visitorsOne piece eachTwo pieces each
3030 pieces60 pieces
5050 pieces100 pieces
100100 pieces200 pieces

Last year’s turnout is a useful starting point if you have it. You can add a buffer for extra visitors, but putting a number on that buffer helps keep “just in case” from becoming several extra bags.

If you’re buying for a school event or party as well, count those treats separately.

Whole bags change the calculation

Cost per piece is useful, but you usually have to buy complete bags. That can make the total jump when you’re just a few pieces short.

Using the observed prices above, here’s what buying enough candy for two treats per visitor would cost:

Buying two treats per visitor at the observed prices
AssortmentFor 50 visitors: 100 pieces neededFor 100 visitors: 200 pieces needed
50-piece bags2 bags: $29.984 bags: $59.96
95-piece bags2 bags: $43.983 bags: $65.97
105-piece bags1 bag: $21.992 bags: $43.98

Calculations use the observed item prices and exclude tax.

For 50 visitors, the 95-piece bag falls five treats short of the planned 100. Buying a second bag leaves 90 pieces after everyone receives two.

One 105-piece bag covers the same plan with five pieces left.

That’s why it helps to compare the total purchase needed for your evening, alongside the cost per piece. A bag can have a reasonable unit price and still leave you buying much more than you intended.

Compare the bags you’d actually hand out

Before choosing, check:

  • The piece count. A bag’s weight doesn’t tell you how many individually wrapped treats it contains.
  • The assortment. Compare products you’re happy to give out, rather than choosing a mix nobody in the household wants.
  • The offer conditions. Member prices and multi-buy promotions may require a different purchase than the shelf tag first suggests.
  • The final total. Include every bag needed to reach your target, plus any tax.

If the count isn’t stated, avoid estimating it from package weight. Look for a retailer description or another bag with a clear count.

Put a number on the Halloween bowl

For Halloween candy, a useful shopping list starts with something like “100 wrapped treats,” rather than “a couple of bags.”

That gives you a quantity to compare and makes it easier to decide how much extra you want.

Search Vynn for available Halloween candy prices, check the package count, and work out the whole-bag total before heading to the store. Results vary by product and location; confirm the final retailer price before purchasing.
